The Hat.

The Hat is a modern accessory dwelling unit inspired by Vietnamese design. Drawing inspiration from the Vietnamese rice hat, the roof takes on a modern look with beams that replicate the supporting structures under rice hats. The roof extends outward and hangs over the foundation of the accessory dwelling as if it were a giant hat. It incorporates fresh takes on traditional shapes found in woven rice hats, fish traps, and baskets. This creates an overall space that utilizes materials and textiles from Vietnamese culture and architecture/interior.
